 PREGNANCY MASSAGE

I provide all my expecting mothers with a comfortable and safe environment for their treatment.  It is effectively used to decrease swelling, relieve aches & pains, and eases the physical & emotional stresses of pregnancy.

Other benefits of your pregnancy massage:

Studies support what more and more women are discovering about massage therapy during pregnancy.  It has been shown to:
  • improve maternal mood
  • decrease depression and anxiety
  • decrease pain
  • decrease stress hormones in pregnant women (including those suffering from depression)
  • decrease obstetrical complications
  • improve neonatal health and development

There is also evidence that massage therapy through the labour and birthing process helps to:

  • decrease pain in all three stages of labour (latent, active, and transition)
  • reduce anxiety in the latent stage
  • reduce stress during labour
  • increase the quality of your experience of childbirth

Infant Massage

Your newborn baby will benefit too.  Studies conclude that preterm (premature) infants receiving massage gain more weight and leave the hospital sooner.  Medical massage therapy may also improve sleep patterns and behaviour in infants.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

The lymph system is a network of organs, lymph nodes, lymph ducts, and vessels that make and move lymph from tissues to the bloodstream.  The lymph system is a major part of the body's immune system and it is key to keeping the immune system clean and functioning to it's optimal level.  There are sufficient studies to show that increasing movement of the lymphatic system also increases immune system function, and regular treatments can help to prevent breast cancer.

It is well accepted today that environmental toxins create a burden on the immune system.  www.HealthandEnvironment.org  A proper functioning lymphatic system is important in cleansing toxins from your system.  Simple, yet powerful massage techniques can increase lymph movement.
Manual lymphatic drainage massage encourages the natural drainage of the lymph from the body.  The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells of the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system.  Manual lymph drainage massage uses a specific amount of pressure and rhythmic movement and pumping movements to stimulate lymph to flow.
